Varsity Bible Church has been sending teams to Maria Auxilliadora since 2003. In total about 60 people from this church of 170 members and adherents have visited the project area. During this time close working relationships have developed between the local church and school and Varsity resulting in a mutually transforming experience for both. Dominican Republic Family Mission Trip
Feb. 8th- 22nd, 2008
Varsity Bible Church has now closed participation in its February family mission trip to the Dominican Republic. They will be partnering with the El Camino Church and TEARS School in the Maria Auxiliadora barrio for these and other projects:
- Day camp for preschool children
- 3 Day camp for TEARS school children
- Teens Camp
- Ongoing construction of a Leadership Training Center
- Relationship building with families and youth in Maria Auxilliadora
Flights and accommodation have been reserved for 20 adults and children. About half of the team will be returning on Feb. 19th and the balance on Feb 22nd.
Team meeting have been taking place on a monthly schedule since September, 2007 to build team cohesion, to study and learn together about different aspects of short-term missions such as cross-cultural dynamics, and to plan activities that will further deepen their relationship with the local community in Maria Auxilliadora.
Dominican Republic Mission Trip
Summer, 2008
A summer 2008 team is being planned at this time to possibly include eyecare (vision), medical and teacher-training components. A similar trip in the summer of 2007 was very successful and a request has been made to our local agent TEARS Ministries to see if they can accommodate another team of up to 10 people or so. At this time (Nov/07) we are taking expressions of interest from people who would like to join this team. Dates and duration of the mission trip will be coordinated with TEARS’ other commitments for the summer of 2008, and with El Camino church and the TEARS school in Maria Auxilliadora. |
